A Soulful Sanctuary Where Time Slows Down

Ms. Amy, a former global traveler, has a passion for calligraphy, tea and art, and longs for an idyllic lifestyle. Post-pandemic, she turned inward, spending more time at home. BDSD Boundless Design crafted her a 320㎡ hot spring villa—not just a living space, but a haven to reconnect with memories and settle in the present, a true return to her roots.

Space is like musical notes, life like a movement. The designer relocated the staircase to link the entire public area, with columns and walls forming arched doorways. Drawing on classical garden landscaping wisdom, the design lets light filter through and frames views seamlessly. In the entrance hall, a red Chinese-style low cabinet pairs with Rococo lighting, blending Oriental charm and Western elegance against a modern backdrop. The staircase, with a suspended-stacking design, American-style handrails and geometric-cut beige marble, stands beside a quiet piano—unfolding spatial rhythm like a melodious tune.

The once poorly-lit kitchen now has ceiling windows for natural light. Warm brick-and-stone textures, paired with unconventional half-height wall lines, create a rich sensory experience. For Amy, every cooking moment here is precious: homemade desserts, wild flora and rough pottery tableware add poetic touches to daily life.

The living room features Roche Bobois’ Neoclassical furniture, its retro elegance merging with the overall cream-and-earth healing color palette. Light and shadow interweave, materials and colors harmonize, crafting a restrained yet warm atmosphere.

The master bedroom prioritizes texture over redundant decor. Curved doorways, stone columns and wabi-sabi aesthetics blend to convey quiet elegance. The study, where Amy practices calligraphy and painting, reflects her affinity for Oriental culture, offering inner peace amid modern hustle.

“As I return from the distant past, I come back to where I originally belonged.” This residence is more than a home; it is a return. Here, time fades, steps slow, and body and mind rediscover peace and freedom amid daily warmth and poetry.
